Christmas Table Decorations - The First Secret to Beautiful Table Decorations

How to decorate a Christmas table

How to Decorate a Christmas Table Decorating your table for Christmas can be as simple or elaborate as you like. However, there is one essential secret to decorating your Christmas table that you should always follow.

By adhering to this simple secret, your table decor will be more attractive and, at the same time, make your work easier. Ignoring this concept can cause your table decorating plan to fall apart.

So, what is the secret? Well, it’s simple. All you need to do is decide on a specific color theme and design motif, and then stick to it. Let me explain…

Do you want a specific color or colors? Many people who are particularly fond of Christmas still rely on traditional themes. I’ll admit that red, green, white, gold, and silver are still my favorites and probably always will be.

Maybe you’re in the mood for a wintery look. Simple. Just use white, blue, and light shades of purple, and you’ll be on your way. Along with candles, you can add decorative snowflakes, small snowmen, clear bead strands, or snowy white garlands.

If you have a color scheme in your home you want to play with, that can make it even simpler. You can always find candles, ribbons, napkins, beads, etc., online or in-store. Add touches of winter greenery or small Christmas trees to anchor the look.

A Christmas wreath placed in the center of the table can be the perfect starting point for a centerpiece. It can be decorated with any objects you might want to use as a theme.

If you don’t have any particular theme in mind, ribbons and bows can always come to the rescue. Inside the wreath, place a large candle or several tapered ones. The taper candles can be of the same height or varying heights; the choice is yours. Just make sure the flame or hot wax doesn’t come into contact with anything that could catch fire.

I once attended a dinner party where this happened. We certainly had a lively Christmas party that night!

Hurricane lanterns placed in a row down the center of the table can replace the traditional centerpiece. You can also use stemware filled with beads, nuts, berries, glass marbles, or any small festive items.

You can use themed pieces to decorate between them. Let’s use Christmas bells as our example theme. Bells can be bought in packages or already mounted on wires. If they’re on wire, they can be wrapped around the base of the hurricane lanterns, or you can attach them to ribbons and wrap the ribbons around the lanterns. Long strands of ribbon and beads can flow around the decorations.

Continue your theme with your table napkins. Use two different colored napkins for each place setting. Place one napkin over the other. You can roll them separately or together, but the important thing is to tie them together.

Tie them with a beautiful wired ribbon with a bell attached to the ribbon. Since the wired ribbon can be shaped, it’s easy to make a napkin holder of the perfect size. With your napkins inside the ribbon holder, arrange them neatly and place them in the center of each plate.

Now you have bells on your napkin holders and bells on your table decorations. You can continue the theme by tying bells on the backs of chairs, hanging them from the chandelier, or attaching them to your flatware. The idea is to repeat the color or decoration. By using a theme, your Christmas table will go from ho-hum to stunning! Happy decorating.

Four Fun and Easy Homemade Christmas Decorations

Homemade Christmas decorations are some of the most special. They’re also a lot of fun because you can enjoy making them with your family. Here are four fun and easy homemade Christmas decorations:

Stringing Popcorn

If you love popcorn garlands, they’re really easy to make. Start with a large bowl of popcorn (without butter, of course) and string it piece by piece using a standard sewing needle and thread. Make sure you have plenty of popcorn because if you want to string it for a garland, you’ll need a lot.

Stringing Cranberries

Similar to stringing popcorn, many people are accustomed to stringing cranberries using a standard needle and thread. Again, make sure you have plenty to go around if you’re going to use it as a garland. Most importantly, and I know it’s tempting, don’t eat all the decorations. Save some for the Christmas tree.

Paper Chains

Traditional paper chains must be one of the greatest Christmas decorating memories as a child. Using green and red construction paper, cut horizontal strips of each color. Fold them into a circle and secure them with tape. Tape is recommended, and if you use it when your child is young, the smell will always remind them of Christmas.

It will probably become “Christmas tape” for them. Once you have a full circle, take another strip of the alternate color and run it through the first circle. Then, fold and secure it with tape. Complete this step until you have a long strand of red and green paper garland. You and your child will enjoy doing this together and create great memories.

Lighted Garland

If you love the look of a lighted garland but don’t have the budget for one of the more expensive ones, consider another option. You can buy a plain green garland at a very cheap price. A small set of lights can cost from one to three dollars. But, put them together, and you’ll have the look of a professionally lit Christmas garland.

For this project, you can use either clear or multicolored Christmas lights. Simply take the plain green garland and wrap the lights around it in a similar design to the stripes on a candy cane. Once you’re done, tuck the final light into the green of the garland. Make sure to place it near an electrical outlet as there won’t be much extra wiring.

Now that you’re ready, plug it in and watch your design shine. A red bow is a nice touch, but it’s not necessary. As people pass by, they’ll see a beautifully lit garland in your window and won’t have any idea you saved a few dollars by wrapping the lights yourself.
